Integral Mission & Urban Mission Conversation

Micah Network and Operation Mobilisation invite you to a day of conversation with Christians working missionally  in inner-city communities around the world.

Here is a day to come together and share experiences, reflections and consult one another on how we see our part in facing some of these questions:

For the first time in history, the majority of the world’s population now live in cities.

- How does this affect how we think about mission?

- Poverty can be seen at its most extreme in cities, affecting vulnerable and often marginalised groups – how can we respond more effectively together?

- Exploitation and injustices are exacerbated and can feel overwheleming – how do we tackle these issues.

RSVP by 1st June to info@micahnetwork.org

Contributors include Sheryl Haw (Micah Network), Dr Ash Barker (Urban Neighbours of Hope), Dr Wesley White (ICC, Glasgow), Sean Stillman (Zacs Place), Rev John Libby and Rev Barrie Thomas.

Partnering for Change

CCDC and Micah Network warmly welcomes you to join with us at the Schönblick Conference Centre (not far from Stuttgart, Germany) to explore and wrestle through how we can partner and cooperate in our efforts to bring about positive change through our work in relief and development contexts.

At our 2012 conference you will have the opportunity to strengthen your efforts in the discussion of current issues, learning from experts, participating in intriguing and challenging seminars and exploring the potential of new partnerships. Our speakers will spiritually encourage, mobilise and guide us through what is good practice in partnerships, addressing issues of concern as well as unpacking Biblical perspectives while predicting the way ahead.

Joel Edwards, Elisa Padilla and CB Samuel along with Johannes Reimer, Albert Baliesima and Sheryl Haw are some of the speakers who will seek to draw our attention to the dynamics of good partnership. These four days will be rich with fellowship, the sharing of experiences and learning – see you there!

Call2All Western Europe Congress

You are warmly invited to the Call2all Western Europe Congress!

Over the last 4 years, call2all congresses around the world have helped accelerate Great Commission activity in several areas, including work among unreached people groups, oral learners, expanding global prayer movements, church planting, and evangelism. This is done through networking Christian leaders, training with best practices and focusing together on the task remaining.

Call2all gives special emphasis to strategic themes that will assist in reaching the least, the last and the lost through every sphere of society – locally and globally.

The Call2all Western Europe Congress will be held April 16th – 19th, 2012 at De Betteld Christian Conference Centre in Zelhem, Netherlands, close to the German border and accessible from Dusseldorf and Amsterdam airports.

One Voice prayer week

In March 2011, we launched the One Voice Global Poverty Prayer Movement and we’ve been praying together throughout the year.

In 2012 we want to continue to grow this global movement, uniting even more people in praying for an end to poverty.

Please save the date and join us for our One Voice prayer week Sunday 26 February – Sunday 4 March 2012.

We have produced new resources for 2012 which will have everything you need to help your church or group pray, reflect and act as part of a Global Poverty Prayer Movement.

You can be part of this Global Poverty Prayer Movement now by signing up to our prayer emails, adding your prayer to our online prayer wall and downloading the  resources to help your church or group pray together.  Go to website.

Befriending the elderly

UNITED KINGDOM: In the UK, where the extended family is not as valued as elsewhere in the world, many elderly people feel lonely and isolated. Some are unable to go out due to illness, disability or age and therefore rarely have an opportunity to talk to other people.

Mount Florida Parish Church in Scotland went through Tearfund’s Church, Community and Change process, which mobilises local churches in the UK to carry out integral mission. At the end of the process, it emerged that a key issue in Mount Florida was the loneliness of elderly people. The church therefore set up a ‘befriending service’ where volunteers regularly visit elderly people in their homes and, if appropriate, take them on outings.

This has helped to inspire self-worth and confidence in the elderly people. One person said, ‘The rest of the day I am on my own, so it’s good to get somebody to talk to … to cheer me up.’ Another person, who had been suffering from depression, found that being visited gave him a new interest in living and he began to ask the volunteer about her Christian faith.

This case study was first published in Roots 11 (Tearfund UK, 2007)
